About Nche

What is Nche?

Nche watches poultry houses day and night. A sealed box in each house reads the heat, humidity, ammonia, light and the sound of the birds, and tells the right person the moment something changes: the farmer first, then the vet, and, if the farmer agrees, the bank or insurer. A free app lets any farmer check droppings and flock sounds from a phone.

What does “Nche” mean?

It comes from the Igbo word onye nche: the watchman who never sleeps.

Is Nche ready to buy?

Not yet. The Nche box is in its pilot build, and the app is in early access. We’re opening both in small groups so we can get them right on real farms first.

Who is behind Nche?

Nche is built in Nigeria by a software engineer who keeps poultry. Meet the founder.

Where do you operate?

We’re starting in Nigeria and adding countries with partners. The free app is built for farmers everywhere.

Farmers

What do the first 100 farms get?

Free access to the Nche app: check droppings and flock sounds, send the report to your vet, and find a trusted vet near you. Ten of those 100 farms will be chosen for a free pilot of the Nche box. Join the first 100.

How are the ten pilot farms chosen?

We look for a mix of farm sizes, bird types and locations, and for farmers who will use the app and tell us honestly what works. We’ll contact the farms we choose.

What does the Nche box cost?

It depends on your houses. We visit, size the system and give you a price. Some banks, insurers and programmes cover the devices for the farms they work with.

Does it work with cages and deep litter?

Yes. Boxes stand on a post at bird height on deep litter, or hang from the cage frame over the aisle in layer houses. Broilers or layers.

How many boxes do I need?

About one for every 500 to 1,000 birds. We size the system after visiting your farm.

Will it wake me up for nothing?

It shouldn’t. Nche weighs sound together with water, heat and ammonia, so one odd reading doesn’t raise an alarm. You choose who gets which alert, and when.

The Nche box

What does it measure?

Five senses: heat, humidity, ammonia, light, and sound from a microphone that listens to the flock. Add the Nche water unit to the drinker line for a sixth: how much the birds are drinking.

Do I need internet in every house?

No. Boxes pass readings to each other down the house, and only the one by the door needs a connection. You need internet in one corner of the farm.

What happens when the power goes off?

Every box runs on its own battery, keeps reading, and tells you the power is out, so the generator goes on in minutes, not hours. The battery swaps out in seconds.

Will dust, ammonia and wash-downs ruin it?

That’s what it’s built for. The box is sealed, drains downwards and is made for the inside of a poultry house, where ordinary electronics give up.

What is the water unit?

An add-on that fits on a drinker line, with its own power. It counts every drink and sends the reading to the nearest Nche box. A drop in drinking is often the first sign of heat stress or disease.

The app

What can the app check?

Photos of droppings and recordings of your flock. You answer a few questions about the birds, and the app gives you a screening result and a report you can send to your vet.

Is it free?

Yes, for farmers and for vets.

Do I need to sign up or download anything?

No sign-up for farmers. Open app.nche.app in your phone’s browser and add it to your home screen. It works like an app and keeps working when the network drops, sending your checks when you’re back online.

Does the result replace my vet?

No. A result tells you when to call your vet and gives them a head start. The diagnosis and the treatment always come from a veterinarian.

Can I use it today?

You can try the early version now. Until launch, results use example data, so don’t act on them yet.

Vets

What does Nche do for vets?

Farmers send you a report with the photo or recording, their answers about the flock, and the screening result, before you set out. You confirm, sign, and the report carries your name. Farmers looking for a vet can find you.

Does it cost vets anything?

No. It’s free for vets.

How are vets verified?

We check your registration number against the council’s public register. It usually takes three to four working days. The first 50 vets are verified within one working day.

What do the first 50 vets get?

Faster verification, early access, and a say in what we build next. Become a founding vet.

Banks & insurers

Can the records be tampered with?

Nche is being built so they can’t be changed unnoticed. In the pilot build, a secure chip in the box seals each reading when it’s taken, with a time stamp, so any later change shows. See how a sealed record works.

Who pays for the devices?

We agree it with you. Some partners fund devices for the farms they cover; others make them part of the policy or the loan.

Can we start small?

Yes. Most partners start with a pilot group of farms and expand after the first cycle.

How does my team see the data?

A dashboard for your team and regular reports. Talk to us about connecting it to your own systems: partners@nche.app.

Data & privacy

Who can see my farm’s data?

You, and the people you choose. A bank or insurer sees your farm’s records only if you agree in writing, and you can see exactly what is shared. We never sell your data.

What happens to my photos and recordings?

They’re stored securely and, only if you allow it, used to make screening more accurate for every farmer. You can switch that off at any time.

Can I have my data deleted?

Yes. Email privacy@nche.app; for app data, include a report code so we can find it. We answer within 30 days.

Which laws do you follow?

The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and the GDPR for people in the EU and UK. Read the privacy notice.
